Enabling IPv6  for Homegroup
Ok here is the situation. Today I installed the Windows 7 OS, prior to that I was able to network between 2 Windows XP PC's without issues. Now that I have Windows 7 on the laptop I can view the networks and access their files from the laptop but the XP based PC's can not access my files on the laptop using Windows 7. When I try to access homegroup either by adding myself to it or creating a new group I get a message saying that IPv6 needs to be enabled to create or join a homegroup. When I check the settings on my WiFi connection IPv6 is checked however when I double click on my WiFi connection is stats "No network access" How do I enable it so I can join a homegroup or create one if the IPv6 states it is enabled yet the WiFi connection reads "no network access"? I have already updated my driver for the WiFi connection. Do I have to do something different on the XP based PC's or is it just that Windows 7 was a waste of time to install if I cant network my computers? Everything else seems to be working fine so far,

Windows 7 can network fine. Post the information from the following commands:ipconfig /all > tmp && notepad tmpnetsh wlan show drivers > tmp && notepad tmpwmic nicconfig list brief > tmp && notepad tmpwmic netprotocol list brief > tmp && notepad tmpEDIT: Forgot to mention, XP cannot participate in a HomeGroup, but regular folder shares will still work.

Ok, I forgot to mention I am not a technical savy person, if this is a way to fix the issue or post whatever you want info on I need detailed steps that you want me to do. Thanks

I'm assuming you want to fix the WiFi even though XP won't be able to participate in a HomeGroup. For the previous four commands, launch the command prompt by hitting the Windows key, typing cmd, followed by the enter key. From there you can just type those commands out line-by-line and they will all open up in their own Notepad window.Post here with the results.

I was under the impression that fixing the IPv6 would enable me to be able to share files between the computers much like Vista did. Apparently I was mistaken. The purpose for me to try and get this fixed was so that I could once again share files between them. I do not mean to not sound appreciative, its just that is what I am looking to do. From the win 7 laptop i can access both XP PC's and view the files, however I can't do the same from the XP to the win 7 laptop. It tells me I dont have permission to access the files. So if you have answers for that, or that I simply can not access them now because of the win 7 OS I would like to know. Tho if I cant access the files from a XP PC it really makes the network useless. I do understand this is a beta and that bugs such as this will be ironed out but for now its useless unless there is a way to fix it. Thanks Ryan for assisting me in remedying this problem

Well you can still access file shares from XP, you just have to go the manual route; right-clicking on a folder and setting a share. Also, make sure the firewall isn't blocking file sharing:netsh firewall set service type=fileandprint mode=enable profile=currentDo this from an elevated command prompt (right-click -> Run as administrator).

Windows 7 defaults to HomeGroup. Windows Vista and below typically default to MSHOME or the like. They need to all be the same, so you will need to remove your Windows 7 machine from homegroup and add it to whatever group your Windows XP machines are on.

Windows 7 defaults to HomeGroup. Windows Vista and below typically default to MSHOME or the like. They need to all be the same, so you will need to remove your Windows 7 machine from homegroup and add it to whatever group your Windows XP machines are on. Adam, I used the windows xp in two machines: a desktop and a notebook. I also had an internet supplier through modem ADSL. This modem was tied in an aprouter. The desktop and the notebook they navigate the internet through wireless. In the same way, i also navigate the files of the desktop through notebook. And in the same way, i navigate the files of the notebook through desktop. everything working ok , After installing the windows 7 in the desktop and in the notebook, the internet is working ok, in the desktop and in the notebook, but, i did not share the files among them. . Consulting sites from the internet, I discovered that the protocol IPV6 has to be set as local, for the network works well. But the IPV6 of the notebook and of the desktop appear like this: "no network access". So, how to solve that? How to share the files between the desktop and the notebook, as they did before in the windows xp? Thanks Marco Souza
